Discovering Brevard’s Hidden Gem: Jordan Street Cafe Brunch Review

Nestled in the charming town of Brevard, North Carolina, Jordan Street Cafe has quickly become a local favorite for those seeking an exceptional dining experience. My recent visit for Sunday brunch, prompted by a glowing recommendation from our attorney, revealed why this spot at 48 W Jordan Street is so highly praised. If you’re looking for upscale bar-type food in a cozy, art-filled setting, Jordan Street Cafe is a must-try.

Stepping inside on a laid-back Sunday, we were greeted by a friendly sign at the bar outlining the brunch specials. The menu, while concise, was packed with tempting options that leaned towards indulgence – perfect for a weekend treat. The casual Sunday service meant ordering directly at the bar before choosing our table. This system, efficient and relaxed, added to the cafe’s unpretentious charm, especially welcome on a slower winter day.

After placing our orders and grabbing coffee from the convenient carafes, we settled into a delightful dining area just a few steps down from the bar. The room was beautifully adorned with artwork from local artists, creating a gallery-like atmosphere. Admiring the diverse pieces on display while we waited for our meal was a pleasant bonus, adding to the overall ambiance of Jordan Street Cafe.

The anticipation built as we enjoyed conversation, and when our food arrived, delivered by the chef himself, we were immediately impressed by the generous portions. My “Eggs Brevard” was a feast: two massive, flaky biscuits layered with country ham, creamy pimento cheese, a perfectly poached egg, all generously smothered in hollandaise sauce. While hollandaise isn’t typically my preference, the combination was surprisingly delicious. For those unfamiliar with Southern cuisine, pimento cheese, often called “the caviar of the South,” is a delightful spread of sharp cheddar, mayonnaise, pimentos, and seasonings. Jordan Street Cafe’s version was a wonderful highlight.

The biscuits themselves were a star – light, flaky, and utterly satisfying. The portion was so substantial that I happily took leftovers home. My companion opted for the Fried Chicken and Biscuits, a similarly monumental dish featuring gravy-smothered biscuits topped with fried eggs. The serving was enormous, and he too enjoyed a second meal from the generous portion. Both dishes confirmed that Jordan Street Cafe is serious about satisfying appetites.

It’s worth noting that Jordan Street Cafe focuses on evening dining, being open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 5 pm to midnight, and for brunch only on Sundays from 12 pm to 4 pm. Lunch is not an option, so plan your visit accordingly. Beyond the delicious food, Jordan Street Cafe boasts a full bar featuring local brewery selections and a history dating back to 1997 when it was opened by Michael and Susan Nemeth. What began as a single dining room has expanded to include a bar, lounge, and patio. Chef Mike, the “menu artist,” and Susan, managing the front of house and desserts, have created a Brevard dining destination.

For anyone visiting or living in Brevard, North Carolina, a visit to Jordan Street Cafe is highly recommended. Whether for a relaxed Sunday brunch or an inviting dinner, this local gem offers delicious food, a cozy atmosphere, and friendly service.
