Summer Streets is an extraordinary annual event transforming New York City’s most valuable public asset – our City Streets – into vibrant spaces for people. For select Saturdays each year, from 7 am to 3 pm, miles of city streets across NYC become car-free havens, inviting everyone to play, walk, and bike freely. These transformed city streets offer a unique opportunity to experience the city in a whole new way.
Along the expansive routes of these city streets, designated rest stops become hubs of activity, offering a variety of free and engaging experiences for all ages. Summer Streets actively promotes healthy recreation and champions the use of sustainable transportation within the city street environment. In 2023, Summer Streets reached an unprecedented scale, expanding across all five boroughs and creating nearly 20 miles of car-free city streets for New Yorkers to explore and enjoy.
