The Lynch Foundation’s Partnership with Pine Street Inn
The Lynch Foundation’s core values of supporting accessible resources and education for vulnerable populations align seamlessly with the mission of the Pine Street Inn. This shared commitment to community well-being and aiding those in need naturally drew the two organizations together.
In 1993, The Lynch Foundation initiated a pilot grant to the Pine Street Inn, recognizing the innovative potential of their approach. This grant was specifically targeted to foster the development of specialized transitional programs. These crucial programs were designed to offer dedicated case management and counseling support to individuals as they moved from emergency shelter environments into stable, permanent housing.
This early support proved transformative. Today, Pine Street Inn manages an extensive network of over 440 permanent supportive housing locations across Greater Boston, providing homes for nearly 900 men and women. The Lynch Foundation’s initial contribution played a significant role in propelling this initiative forward, facilitating the creation of lasting solutions to homelessness rather than just temporary fixes.
The impact of the Lynch Foundation’s grant extended beyond housing. It enabled Pine Street Inn to strategically allocate other resources and local donations to bolster other critical initiatives within their organization. These include essential recovery services for substance abuse, job training and workforce development programs, and expanded outreach efforts.
Further strengthening their commitment, The Lynch Foundation made another significant investment in Pine Street Inn’s 50th Anniversary capital campaign in 2020. This grant aimed to further expand, maintain, and strengthen long-term solutions to homelessness in Boston. A key outcome of this investment was the establishment of a new transitional shelter, designed to successfully transition all 180 guests into permanent housing within a year, reaffirming the ongoing commitment to breaking the cycle of homelessness.
