Owen Brown Street Reconstruction Project: An Update for Residents

The Owen Brown Street reconstruction project is currently paused as Summit County Department of Sanitary Sewer Services (DSSS) finalizes the design for a new gravity sewer along the same corridor. This page provides an update on the planned improvements to Owen Brown Street.

Owen Brown Street, specifically the section between Morse Road and SR 91, is scheduled for a comprehensive reconstruction due to the deteriorating road surface and base. This project will not only address the road itself, but also includes the replacement of the existing, undersized, and aging cast-iron waterline between the creek bridge and SR 91. Further improvements planned for Owen Brown Street encompass storm sewer repairs and lateral replacements, along with partial curb, sidewalk, and driveway apron repairs.

To mitigate flooding issues at the Brandywine Creek Tributary bridge on Owen Brown Street, instead of replacing the bridge, an additional 42-inch overflow pipe is planned to enhance the storm system’s capacity.

Coordination with Summit County DSSS is crucial. Their sanitary sewer work, being deeper, is expected to precede the City’s project on Owen Brown Street. This sequencing aims to prevent contractor conflicts, utility clashes, and minimize disruption for residents.

Following the completion of all underground utilities work and necessary roadway repairs, Owen Brown Street from Morse Road to SR 91 will be fully resurfaced with asphalt. The Summit County DSSS project is tentatively scheduled for 2024, with the City’s Owen Brown Street project following in 2025. Stay tuned for further updates as the project progresses.
