Downtown Leesburg is experiencing a significant shift in its coffee scene as King Street Coffee, a long-standing local favorite, announces its departure, paving the way for a new coffee venture, Second Nature Coffee Co.

King Street Coffee, a staple at 110 South King Street since its opening around 2010, shared the news of its closure via social media. Owner Abbie Whitehurst expressed her heartfelt sentiments regarding the difficult decision.

In a Facebook post, Whitehurst conveyed the unexpected nature of the closure, stating, “It is with heavy heart that I am announcing the closure of King Street Coffee at this location,” and adding, “I never wanted King St to close and had no idea it ever would.” Her full statement provides more insight into the circumstances leading to this change.

Taking over the prime location is Second Nature Coffee Co., a new coffee shop concept from the team behind the well-known Buffalo Wing Factory. This local restaurant group, with multiple locations in the area, is set to bring a fresh perspective to the Leesburg coffee scene.

Nikki Sicilian, VP of Buffalo Wing Factory, shared with The Burn their appreciation for the downtown Leesburg business environment and their intention to maintain the unique character of the area. “We have appreciated this downtown business for many years — and love the small town, eclectic feel of the place. That definitely will not be changing,” Sicilian stated, assuring a smooth transition for King Street Coffee patrons.

Second Nature Coffee Co. aims to preserve continuity by keeping the existing coffee vendors and staff from King Street Coffee. Looking ahead, there’s potential for Second Nature to expand its brand to other locations in Northern Virginia, depending on the success of the Leesburg venture.

King Street Coffee’s final day of operation is scheduled for Monday, July 29th. Second Nature Coffee Co. is anticipated to open its doors shortly thereafter, with a target opening in the first week of August, promising a swift and seamless transition for coffee lovers in downtown Leesburg.
