Discovering the Delight of Meeting Street Cafe in Providence

I’ve never personally stepped into Meeting Street Cafe nestled in Providence, Rhode Island, but I feel like I’ve already tasted a piece of its magic. It all started with a co-teacher, a true foodie, who couldn’t stop singing praises of this local gem.

She had visited Providence, likely around October, and teased the idea of bringing back a treat from Meeting Street Cafe – specifically, one of their legendary cookies. Sadly for me (and my sweet tooth), that cookie didn’t materialize on that trip. It was a time when I was craving new culinary experiences, so the anticipation was real. However, she promised redemption on her next visit, which thankfully came during Thanksgiving weekend.

The photo really doesn’t capture the sheer scale of this cookie. Firstly, its size is deceptive in the picture. Secondly, the image doesn’t quite convey how utterly delicious it was. Take my word for it: this was a seriously large cookie, and incredibly tasty, even if undeniably indulgent. (Proof of its richness? It left a substantial grease stain on the bag!).

Meeting Street Cafe is conveniently located off Thayer Street in Providence, placing it right near the vibrant Brown University campus. Beyond the cookies, my interest is piqued by their sandwiches. Apparently, like their cookies, the sandwiches are generously portioned. I’m told even a half sandwich is substantial – perfect for a hearty lunch.

My co-teacher shared a couple of insider tips about Meeting Street Cafe: she raves about their Reuben sandwich, claiming it’s the best around (potentially in Providence, or maybe even beyond!). And for those who love breakfast anytime, they serve breakfast all day, which is always a winning feature in my book.

Having only visited Providence a few times, mostly to see my cousin at Providence College, I’m now adding another reason to return. A visit to the Brown University area and Meeting Street Cafe to sample these famed sandwiches is definitely on my radar for a “New Thing” to experience, hopefully in the near future.
