Bond Street Sushi: A Candid Review of a Soho Dinner Spot

After a busy Saturday, seeking a relaxed dinner in Soho, we decided to try Bond Street Sushi based on coworker recommendations. Our group, eager for a good sushi experience, started the evening with edamame, a classic and simple appetizer to begin our culinary exploration.

For the main courses, opting to share and sample, we selected a couple of rolls and a main dish. We chose the spicy yellowtail and spicy tuna rolls, aiming for familiar yet flavorful sushi options.

An interesting presentation choice was serving the spicy mayo separately, allowing for personal control over the spice level. However, the spicy yellowtail roll was underwhelming. The spicy tuna roll also didn’t impress, with a taste that suggested it might have been made from less desirable tuna pieces.

In contrast to the sushi rolls, the Chilean sea bass with miso sauce proved to be a highlight. The portion was generous, and the fish itself was flavorful and well-prepared. The combination of the miso sauce with the sea bass, even the skin, was notably enjoyable. Another member of our party tried the cod, but unfortunately found it bland and lacking in taste.

Overall, the experience at Bond Street Sushi was mixed. While the Chilean sea bass was a standout dish, the sushi rolls were disappointing. One of our group members who ordered two rolls was still hungry after the meal, leading us to seek additional food and drinks elsewhere. We ended up at Soho Park, initially surprised by the small size of their fries, but learned that this is their standard offering.

If considering a return to Bond Street Sushi, the Chilean sea bass would be a definite order. However, based on this experience, exploring other sushi options in Soho might be worthwhile.
