When you visit Verona Street Animal Shelter to adopt a pet, we will guide you through a few simple steps:
- Complete our brief adoption paperwork and answer a few questions to help us understand your needs and preferences.

After you’ve had the chance to meet and interact with an animal you’re interested in adopting, you’ll have a consultation with one of our knowledgeable Verona Street Animal Shelter staff members. During this session, we’ll share valuable information about the animal’s background, any special needs they may have, and recommendations for their diet and exercise. This is also the perfect opportunity to ask any questions you may have about spaying/neutering, house training, obedience training techniques, flea and tick prevention, or any other concerns related to pet care.
Breed Information at Verona Street Animal Shelter: Focusing on the Individual Pet
At Verona Street Animal Shelter, we believe in recognizing each dog as a unique individual. It’s important to understand that visual breed identification in dogs can be unreliable and often inaccurate. Mislabeling breeds can unfortunately lead to negative consequences for these deserving animals. Therefore, Verona Street Animal Shelter has moved away from using breed labels for dogs available for adoption, unless we have official documentation from a previous owner. Without verified pedigree records from a breeder or DNA testing results, we will not assign breed labels on our website listings, kennel cards, rabies certificates, or dog licenses. Instead, our focus at Verona Street Animal Shelter is on getting to know each dog’s personality and describing them based on their individual traits and temperament, rather than relying on potentially inaccurate breed assumptions.
