The City of Providence is undertaking a comprehensive study focused on the revitalization of North Main Street, a vital corridor stretching from Providence Station to the Pawtucket city line. This initiative, a collaboration between the Department of Planning and Development and the City Council, aims to enhance the quality of life for residents and stimulate economic growth along North Main Street.
The North Main Street study, conducted by Principle Group, is designed to analyze current conditions and explore a range of improvements. Key areas of focus include streetscape enhancements, better bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, and identifying development opportunities for vacant or underutilized properties. These improvements are intended to complement transportation investments and foster a more vibrant and accessible North Main Street.
Furthermore, the study will assess the potential of a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district to generate revenue for the area and examine the existing residential and commercial market dynamics. The ultimate goal is to develop strategies that attract desired development and improve living standards for those residing near North Main Street. This initiative builds upon previous planning efforts to create a unified and actionable strategy for North Main Street, guiding city departments, state agencies, and attracting private investment to the corridor.
