Harry’s Italian: Your Go-To Old School Red Sauce Joint on Gold Street

Craving that classic, comforting Italian-American food experience? Look no further than Harry’s Italian on Gold Street. Recently, I had the pleasure of rediscovering this downtown gem thanks to some friends with excellent taste. We were in the mood for pizza, and they steered me towards a spot I hadn’t yet tried but will definitely be returning to: Harry’s Italian.

The menu at Harry’s is a delightful throwback, packed with all the red sauce favorites you could ask for. As I scanned the appetizers, pastas, salads, and main courses, my friends were laser-focused: “Pizza is the mission! Let’s get one of their famous Grandma pies – perfect for sharing.” Pizza it was. To balance things out (sort of), we decided on a spinach salad. My choice, and a wise one it turned out to be. Toppings for the pizza were next, and Harry’s didn’t disappoint with their selection. Broccoli Rabe and Prosciutto caught my eye immediately. “Sounds amazing,” my friend agreed, “How about half with mushrooms?” Meatball and Mushroom it was – a perfect half-and-half combination.

The spinach salad arrived warm, tossed with mushrooms, pancetta, and a tangy cheese in a balsamic dressing. It was, in a word, fantastic. And the pizza? Both sides were generously loaded with toppings and equally delicious. As someone who considers themselves a bit of a pizza aficionado, I was genuinely impressed with Harry’s. The crust had that perfect balance of crisp and chewy, the tomato sauce was zesty and flavorful, the mozzarella tasted fresh, and the toppings were top-notch.

For lunch in the downtown area, Harry’s Italian offers incredible value. Most lunch items are priced under $15, with pizzas ranging from $17-22 (small, large, Grandma, and White options available), and toppings extra at $2-5. If you find yourself in Downtown Manhattan with a craving for that old-school red sauce flavor or pizza that tastes like it came straight from your Italian Grandma’s kitchen, Harry’s Italian at 2 Gold Street is exactly where you need to be. It’s a true Gold Street gem.
