Marcus Evans has been a key player for the Towson Tigers football team, consistently demonstrating his skills as a primary slot receiver. His journey reflects a dedication to the sport, transitioning from the raw enthusiasm of Street Football to the structured environment of college athletics. Throughout his time with the Tigers, Evans has showcased impressive stats and game-changing plays, marking him as a significant offensive threat.
In the 2022 season, Evans played in all 11 games, starting in eight, solidifying his role as a go-to receiver. He led the team in yards per reception, averaging an impressive 12.65 yards per catch, ranking him 24th in the FCS. His five receiving touchdowns also topped the Tigers’ roster among players with multiple catches. Over the season, he accumulated 23 receptions for 291 yards, consistently making an impact with multiple receptions in eight games. Highlights included a standout performance against Morgan State in the Battle for Greater Baltimore, where he scored two touchdowns on receptions exceeding 20 yards. Later in the season, against Stony Brook, he recorded a season-high 78 receiving yards, including a crucial 36-yard touchdown catch on fourth down, contributing significantly to a victory.
The 2021 season saw Evans as a starting wide receiver in 10 of 11 games. He recorded 24 catches for 336 yards and two touchdowns. His season debut was explosive, again in The Battle for Greater Baltimore against Morgan State, where he caught two passes for 91 yards, including a remarkable 73-yard touchdown. He continued to be a reliable target, catching five passes for 41 yards and a touchdown in a home game victory against Stony Brook. Another notable performance came against Richmond, where he secured four receptions for 76 yards.
Going back to 2019, Evans was already emerging as a primary receiving option for Towson. He ended the season with 33 receptions for 455 yards and four touchdowns. One of his touchdowns against UAlbany was so spectacular it earned the #2 spot on SportsCenter’s Top-10 plays, showcasing his athletic ability and highlight-reel potential. He demonstrated consistency by catching at least one pass in 11 of the 12 games he played. His collegiate debut against The Citadel was promising with two 26-yard catches. This was followed by his first college touchdown in a win against N.C. Central. He achieved a season-high of five receptions against Villanova and a career-high 86 receiving yards, highlighted by a 68-yard touchdown, in a road victory over Stony Brook.
Before joining Towson, Evans spent two years at the University of Pittsburgh, although he did not play in any games during that time.
Evans’s athletic foundation was built at Liberty High School, where he excelled in both football and track. He was recognized as a top prospect in Pennsylvania, ranked among the top-25 by ESPN, Rivals.com, and Scout.com. His senior year performance earned him First Team EPC All-South and The Morning Call All-Area honors, with 31 catches for 552 yards and three touchdowns. Over his final two high school seasons, he amassed over 900 receiving yards from 60 receptions. In track, he also competed in the long jump, further demonstrating his athleticism.
Off the field, Marcus Evans is the son of Theodore Street and Ria Evans. He has a brother, Devin, who has NFL experience, adding to the family’s football legacy. Marcus is currently majoring in economics, balancing his athletic pursuits with academic goals. His journey from the early days, perhaps even echoing the informal games of street football that foster a love for the sport, to becoming a key receiver for Towson University, is a testament to his talent and dedication.
