Mitch Street, a prominent figure in Hamilton Heights High School, has announced his resignation as the head coach of the varsity football program. Street, who has dedicated a decade to education at Heights, will continue his commitment to the school in his position as Dean of Students.
“Leading one of the premier small school football programs in the state has been a true honor,” stated Mitch Street. He embraced the head coach role in 2011 at just 26 years old, marking the beginning of a significant chapter for Hamilton Heights football.
Street’s journey with Hamilton Heights commenced in 2008 as a US & World History teacher, preceded by three years as the program’s assistant coach. His time with the program was marked by personal and professional growth. He achieved a Master’s degree, took on the responsibilities of a school administrator, and built a family with two children, all while serving as a mentor and coach to student-athletes both on and off the field.

During his seven seasons as head coach, Mitch Street led Heights to remarkable achievements, including three conference championships, a state runner-up title, and an impressive record of six winning seasons. His overall coaching record stands at 54-27, a testament to his leadership and dedication. His season highlights include: 2017 (3-8), 2016 (5-4), 2015 (7-4, Hoosier Conference champion), 2014 (9-3), 2013 (8-3, Mid-Indiana Conference champion), 2012 (13-2, Mid-Indiana Conference champion, state runner-up), and 2011 (9-3).
“I have been incredibly fortunate to work alongside amazing individuals like Chuck Reeves, Smoke Starrett, Jason Simmons, Corey Kiger, Jon Kirschner, and numerous other assistant coaches,” Mitch Street acknowledged. He emphasized their shared dedication to enriching the lives of young student-athletes.
Mitch Street succeeded Jason Simmons, who had been the head coach from 2009-11 before becoming assistant athletic director at Ben Davis in 2011. Simmons currently holds the head football coach position at Noblesville High School.
Hamilton Heights Athletic Director Kurt Ogden expressed his appreciation for Street’s contributions. “Working with a head coach as professional as Mitch has been a pleasure. He is an exceptional individual who has diligently maintained a strong winning culture within our football program over the past seven years. Mitch has not only developed outstanding football players but, more importantly, has fostered leadership qualities in his students, serving as a positive role model. We understand and support Mitch’s decision to prioritize his young family and their activities. Family time is invaluable.”
Hamilton Heights is now actively seeking a new head coach to continue the program’s success, aiming to fill the position this spring. The legacy of Mitch Street is one of dedication, achievement, and positive influence on Hamilton Heights football.
