Austin, Texas, has recently played host to some Hollywood disruption as streets near the University of Texas (UT) campus were temporarily closed for the filming of the acclaimed series “1923.” For the past two weeks, commuters in the West Campus area have experienced heavier traffic than usual due to these closures, specifically around San Gabriel Street.

The filming is for the second season of “1923,” the “Yellowstone” prequel which garnered a Golden Globe nomination and boasts a star-studded cast including Helen Mirren, Harrison Ford, and Brandon Sklenar. The popular show chose Austin as a key filming location as production moves across Texas, adding to the city’s growing reputation as a film-friendly destination. Prior to setting up in Austin, “1923” also filmed scenes in downtown Lockhart in July.

While temporary inconveniences were experienced, the presence of “1923” in Austin is a significant economic boon for the city. It’s estimated that the production will inject nearly $52 million into the local Austin economy and create over 350 jobs. This economic impact highlights the continued growth of the film industry in Central Texas and its positive effects on the region.
