For over 16 years, 67 Orange Street has been a cornerstone of Harlem’s vibrant cocktail culture. This pioneering bar, whose name echoes the address of Almack’s Dance Hall—a historic 1800s Black-owned establishment in New York City—has been instrumental in driving the cocktail renaissance uptown. Known for its speakeasy ambiance, marked by purple drapes and antique mirrors, 67 Orange Street offered a rich menu of Prohibition-era inspired drinks alongside creations that honored Black history. However, this summer brought news of change as the beloved bar announced the closure of its original location on July 28th.
In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram, 67 Orange Street conveyed, “67 Orange has been a beloved and iconic Harlem institution for the past 16 years. As we all know, change is inevitable, and the time has come to close our doors at the famed 113th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard location, and look toward new opportunities and a new home. This isn’t a goodbye; it’s a heartfelt ‘see you soon.’”

The good news for patrons of 67 Orange Street Nyc is that this closure is far from permanent. Owner Karl Franz Williams has confirmed that 67 Orange Street has secured a new location within Harlem, promising a continuation of its legacy. To facilitate the move and create an even better experience in the new space, 67 Orange Street launched a fundraiser to support design, construction, and provide financial stability for their dedicated team.
For those eager to experience the 67 Orange Street magic sooner rather than later, an exciting opportunity awaits. Starting September 19th, 67 Orange Street is hosting a pop-up experience at Back Bar’s Hidden Bar, nestled inside Hotel Eventi. This temporary location will bring familiar elements of the Harlem bar to a new audience, featuring art deco inspired décor, curated music, and of course, the renowned cocktails. Karl Franz Williams and familiar faces from the 67 Orange team will be behind the bar, crafting signature drinks like the impressive LeGrand’s Old Fashioned, complete with a flamed orange peel. Adding to the experience, Chef Laurent Tourondel will present a selection of food items specially designed to complement the bar’s ambiance and pay tribute to Harlem’s vibrant culinary rhythm.
