Dr. Vassilev’s journey in veterinary medicine began with her DVM degree from the University of Illinois. She further honed her skills through a rigorous one-year private practice internship in Ventura, California. Driven by a passion for critical care, she completed a residency in emergency and critical care medicine at the esteemed Animal Medical Center in Texas, achieving board certification in 2005. With over two decades of experience practicing veterinary medicine in the San Diego area, Dr. Vassilev’s leadership ensures B Street Vet remains at the forefront of emergency and critical animal care. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Vassilev is a familiar face at local dog parks and beaches, often accompanied by her six dogs, showcasing her deep personal commitment to animal companionship.

Originally from Los Angeles, Dr. Olsen completed her undergraduate degree at UC Davis before gaining valuable experience as a veterinary nurse in general practice. Her pursuit of veterinary medicine led her back to UC Davis for her DVM degree. Following graduation, Dr. Olsen moved to San Diego and completed a demanding rotating internship program focused on emergency and critical care, further solidifying her skills in this vital area of veterinary medicine. Her professional interests extend beyond emergency care to include ophthalmology, radiology, and even zoo and exotic animal medicine, demonstrating her broad knowledge base and adaptability. At B Street Vet, Dr. Olsen’s commitment to comprehensive animal care is evident in her dedication to each patient. Beyond her veterinary work, Dr. Olsen embraces an active lifestyle, enjoying sports, beach outings, and exploring San Diego with her dogs, reflecting her energetic and well-rounded personality.
Marshia Keene, DVM, CVA – Integrative Veterinarian at B Street Vet
Dr. Marshia Keene offers a unique integrative approach to veterinary care at B Street Vet, combining conventional medicine with complementary therapies. Growing up in Boulder, Colorado, Dr. Keene’s initial passion for wildlife biology led her to a degree from Colorado State University. Her career path took an interesting turn as she worked as a Wildlife Rehabilitation Specialist in southern Florida before venturing into the Oregon wine industry. Ultimately, her calling to animal care prevailed, and she earned her DVM degree from Oregon State University, gaining practical experience as a veterinary nurse in an emergency hospital during her studies. Dr. Keene then moved to San Diego to complete a rotating internship focused on emergency and critical care. At B Street Vet, she integrates her expertise in acupuncture (CVA certified) and rehabilitation into her practice, offering a holistic approach to animal wellness. Her interests also include feline medicine, showcasing her dedication to caring for cats. Outside of her veterinary practice, Dr. Keene enjoys stand-up paddleboarding, hiking, boxing, and exploring San Diego, demonstrating her adventurous spirit and commitment to a balanced life.

Raised in Mammoth Lakes, CA, her involvement in 4-H sparked her early interest in animal husbandry. Dr. Kargman moved to San Diego during high school and continued her education at USD, earning a biology degree. Her experience as a veterinary nurse at Helen Woodward Animal Center further solidified her path towards veterinary medicine. She obtained her DVM from UC Davis, with a focus on livestock medicine, and returned to San Diego to complete an equine internship. This experience ignited her passion for internal medicine and preventative care, areas she emphasizes at B Street Vet. Dr. Kargman aspires to further specialize in infectious diseases, internal medicine, and advanced imaging. Beyond her professional pursuits, she values family time, travel, snow skiing, and exploring the outdoors with her Boston Terriers, highlighting her well-rounded life and dedication to both animals and her personal interests.
