Comprehensive Accessibility Features at the Eldridge Street Museum

We have made significant efforts to ensure the museum is accessible to all visitors across all four levels.

Building Access for All

The Eldridge Street Museum is fully wheelchair accessible on all four levels thanks to ramps and an elevator. For step-free entry, please use the accessible entrance located on the north side of the building. Look for the gate marked “accessible entry” and ring the clearly labeled doorbell to the right, and our staff will be ready to assist you. Accessible restroom facilities, including an accessible stall, are available on the lower level for your convenience.

Dedicated Accommodations and Services

To support visitors with disabilities, the Eldridge Street Museum provides complimentary admission for personal care attendants accompanying visitors who require assistance. We also offer a range of specialized services to enhance your visit, all available upon request. These include verbal description tours, providing detailed auditory descriptions of the visual elements of the museum, and touch tours, allowing tactile exploration of select objects and architectural details. Social stories, which are visual guides outlining the museum visit experience, are also available to help prepare visitors for their visit. Furthermore, we conduct specialized tours designed for people living with dementia and their caregivers, creating a supportive and engaging environment for these visitors.

To ensure we can adequately meet your needs, it is crucial to communicate any specific requirements when planning your visit. Please email [email protected] or call us at 212.219.0302 to discuss your needs. Our dedicated staff will collaborate with you to create a personalized itinerary that aligns with your specific needs and goals for your museum visit. We kindly request that you reach out with special requests at least two weeks in advance of your intended visit date to allow us ample time to prepare.
