Fuel Cafe 5th Street Reopens in Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point with Revamped Menu

After being closed for over a year, the much-loved Fuel Cafe 5th Street has officially reopened its doors, welcoming patrons back seven days a week. The Walker’s Point motorcycle-themed eatery is easing back into full swing with a deliberate and thoughtful approach, ensuring a comfortable and exciting experience for returning customers.

“We’re still getting back into gear, but we plan to gradually increase our offerings throughout the summer, introducing new menu items, hosting events, and expanding into catering services. And of course, we’re looking forward to seeing the bikes return,” shared Matthew “Ace” Fisher, Fuel’s General Manager.

While Fuel Cafe 5th Street retains its distinctive moto-centric décor, which was freshly installed just before the initial closure in March 2020 due to COVID-19, the menu has been entirely reimagined. Guests can now start with tempting appetizers such as popcorn chicken, addictive bacon “crack,” a variety of chips and dips, and Milwaukee Pretzel Company pretzels served with delectable dipping sauces. Fuel is also partnering with East Side Ovens to provide a wider array of bakery items, including an expanded selection of vegan and gluten-free options.

Kristyn Eitel, co-owner of Fuel, emphasized the complete overhaul of the sandwich menu. While the original Fuel on 5th was famous for its “cheesy tomato” sub, a menu staple since the cafe’s inception in 1993, the new menu takes a fresh direction based on customer feedback from 2019-2020.

“Our new menu is built directly on what we learned our guests enjoyed most before the closure. Our success has always been rooted in serving fantastic, comforting snacks and sandwiches, and we’re launching with exciting new items that really highlight those strengths,” Eitel explained.

However, brunch aficionados will be pleased to hear that weekend brunch will still feature beloved classics like the hot chicken with French toast and chilaquiles. Adding to the brunch excitement are new dishes such as the intriguing “brisket s*it on a shingle” and the luxurious “Croque M’s.”

Brunch items are available every Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., supplementing the regular daily menu. Diners can also enjoy bottomless mimosas for $15 with any food purchase during brunch hours. Brunch reservations can be made through the Fuel Cafe 5th Street website.

Fuel Cafe 5th Street has diligently worked with the city to finalize its COVID safety plan and has received approval to operate within capacity guidelines. Plexiglass dividers have also been installed at the bar to further prioritize the health and safety of both staff and patrons.

“We are thrilled to once again be a gathering place on 5th Street, just like we have been in the past. We believe that reopening now, with our spacious indoor area featuring garage doors, a large patio, and sidewalk seating, will ensure our guests feel comfortable returning and allow us to have a fantastic summer season,” said co-owner, Leslie Montemurro.
