Nestled within the bustling concourse of Glasgow Queen Street Station, Luckie Beans offers a delightful surprise for commuters and coffee aficionados alike. This charming coffee cart, a discovery I made after meeting owner Jamie at the Glasgow Coffee Festival, brings specialty coffee right to the heart of one of Glasgow’s main transport hubs. Invited by the station management and set up in just two weeks, Luckie Beans has quickly become a welcome addition to Glasgow Queen Street Station.

The setup of Luckie Beans is efficient and well-considered. Despite being a cart, it’s equipped with a professional two-group La Marzocco espresso machine, a testament to their commitment to quality. Alongside, you’ll find two grinders – one for the house blend and another for the weekly changing single-origin. The till area displays tempting sweet treats, and a chiller cabinet offers soft drinks and sandwiches, catering to various tastes and needs.
While primarily geared towards takeaway service, evident in their use of takeaway cups (encouraging you to bring your reusable cup!), the small seating area to the left of the cart provides a welcome respite. It’s an ideal spot to work briefly or simply relax before catching your train. Though the station environment is naturally lively, with train noise and announcements, the stunning views of the station’s impressive glass roof create a unique and bright atmosphere.

During my visit, Luckie Beans was serving their Queen Street blend, a 50/50 mix of Sumatran and Brazilian beans. The espresso was rich, balanced, and notably enjoyable – a testament to their coffee sourcing and preparation. They also offer a rotating single-origin, showcasing the breadth of Luckie Beans’ coffee range.
