Google is deepening its roots in Boulder, Colorado, with the acquisition of a significant 125,000-square-foot office space at the Rêve development, strategically located at 30th and Pearl streets. This move underscores Google’s continued investment in Boulder and its commitment to expanding its workforce in the region.

The new office, anticipated to open its doors in 2023, is strategically positioned to complement Google’s existing Pearl Place campus, effectively extending its footprint across Pearl Street. This expansion follows the opening of Google’s third building within the Pearl Place campus just last year, highlighting a period of rapid growth for the tech giant in Boulder.
Currently, Google’s Boulder operations are spread across several locations, including the Pearl Place campus, the 3333 Walnut campus, and additional office spaces at 2590 and 2600 Pearl Street. These locations collectively house over 1,500 employees, engaged in diverse roles spanning sales, recruitment, engineering, and product management, supporting key Google services like Google Cloud, Google Maps, and Google Payments.
While Google has not yet specified the exact number of new jobs this expansion will create at the Rêve development, it’s worth noting that as of February of last year, the company had already established a substantial base of 1,300 employees in Boulder and announced ambitious plans to double its Colorado workforce. This new office space acquisition strongly suggests that Google remains on track to achieve, or even exceed, these growth targets in Boulder.
Bhavna Chhabra, Google Boulder’s site lead and senior engineering director, emphasized the strategic nature of this expansion, stating, “With the acquisition of this new office space, we aim to continue Google’s thoughtful and organic growth in the great city of Boulder. We’re proud to have called Colorado home since 2006, and we are committed to growing our local workforce and being a helpful community neighbor for many more years to come.”
The Rêve project itself is a significant six-acre mixed-use development that broke ground in 2019. It encompasses apartments, retail spaces, and office spaces, creating a vibrant urban hub at the 30th and Pearl location. Google’s purchase of the office space within Rêve was made from a joint venture between Southern Land Company and GTIS Partners.
Colorado Governor Jared Polis hailed Google’s investment as a testament to the state’s robust economy and attractive business environment. “This investment in Colorado is a sign that our economy is building back better, and is the best place to live, work and play,” Governor Polis commented. “Innovation and creativity define Colorado’s tech industry and we’re glad to see further investment creating good jobs in our state.”
Beyond its economic contributions, Google has also demonstrated a strong commitment to the Boulder community through philanthropic efforts. Since 2006, Google employees in Colorado, along with Google’s matching contributions, have donated over $20 million to local nonprofits. Furthermore, they have volunteered more than 29,000 hours to support various community organizations. Google’s philanthropic arm, Google.org, has also awarded nearly $8.4 million in grants to Colorado nonprofits, with a particular focus on enhancing access to computer science education for underrepresented students.
This latest expansion at the Rêve development on Pearl Street reinforces Google’s long-term commitment to Boulder, solidifying its position as a major employer and contributor to the thriving tech landscape of Colorado. As Google continues to grow its Boulder presence, the city is poised to further benefit from the innovation, economic opportunities, and community engagement that the tech giant brings.
