In recent years, the art world has witnessed a significant surge in digital strategies, embraced by galleries, art fairs, and institutions. While these digital adaptations have broadened audience reach, they often fall short of exploring the conceptual possibilities within the digital environment itself. Library Street Collective is taking a bold step to bridge this gap with the introduction of SITE: Art and Architecture in the Digital Space. This innovative digital platform for exhibitions forges a unique connection between visual arts and the built environment, weaving in elements of storytelling, architectural history, and the distinct perspectives of featured artists. Each exhibition within SITE is designed to be responsive to its digital surroundings, creating meaningful dialogues between art and place.
SITE: Art and Architecture in the Digital Space
The vision for SITE is brought to life through a collaboration with acclaimed architectural photographer James Haefner. Known for co-creating ‘Michigan Modern: Design that Shaped America’ and ‘Michigan Modern: An Architectural Legacy,’ Haefner lends his expertise to seamlessly integrate artworks into digital environments. This online approach to art presentation also offers a substantial environmental advantage. By eliminating the need for physical exhibition transit, SITE significantly reduces the gallery’s carbon footprint. The platform is entirely digital, ensuring that the displayed art is expertly and naturally rendered within its chosen setting.
Supporting the Ruth Ellis Center
Reflecting Library Street Collective’s commitment to community engagement, 10% of the proceeds from art sales during SITE: State Savings Bank will be donated to the Ruth Ellis Center. This Detroit-based nonprofit is nationally recognized for its trauma-informed services supporting homeless, runaway, and at-risk LGBTQ youth and young adults of color. The Ruth Ellis Center addresses systemic barriers to housing, wealth, and wellness faced by this vulnerable population. Library Street Collective’s support underscores the critical importance of providing safe havens for displaced and marginalized individuals.
Through SITE, Library Street Collective not only redefines the digital art experience but also reinforces its dedication to both artistic innovation and social responsibility.
