Casting Call: Shine on the Main Street Theatre Stage in “Artifice” & “Affections of May”

streetsounds.net is excited to announce a fantastic opportunity for actors to join two captivating productions at the renowned Kennedy Mine Amphitheatre! We are holding auditions for Anne Flanagan’s comedic play, ARTIFICE, directed by Susan McCandless, and Norm Foster’s heartwarming comedy, AFFECTIONS OF MAY, directed by Julie Anchor. If you’re looking to bring your talent to the Main Street Theatre scene, this is your chance to shine.

Audition Details for Main Street Theatre Roles

Mark your calendars! Auditions will be held at the Three Penny Stage in the R25 Complex, located at 1723 25th St, Sacramento. We have two audition dates to accommodate your schedule:

  • Sunday, January 19th, from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM
  • Monday, January 20th, from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM

Auditions will consist of cold readings from selected scenes of the scripts. To ensure a smooth audition process, please bring a headshot and resume. As a token of our appreciation, actors will receive a $175 gas stipend to assist with travel expenses. This is a wonderful chance to be part of vibrant main street theatre productions in a beautiful outdoor venue.

This casting call seeks talent for two distinct and engaging plays, both perfect examples of what main street theatre offers: relatable stories with humor and heart.

ARTIFICE: A Hilarious Heist of the Art World

ARTIFICE will run Fridays and Saturdays from June 20th to July 19th, 2025. Rehearsals will commence the week of May 18th in Sacramento (R25 Complex) until tech week, starting June 15th, which will be held at the Kennedy Mine Amphitheatre.

Synopsis: In ARTIFICE, struggling artist Payne Showers’ death ironically skyrockets the value of his art. His widow, Maggie, must auction it off to avoid financial ruin. Days before the crucial auction, Maggie and her anxious gallery manager, Richard, host a private viewing for VIP guests amidst a raging snowstorm. These guests include Judith Fontaine, a powerful newspaper magnate; Mick Fitzgerald, a wealthy real estate tycoon; Trent, a charmingly clueless soap opera star; Graciela, a street-smart cocktail waitress; and Emma, a dry-witted art critic. However, the evening takes unexpected turns with uninvited guests and hidden agendas, promising intrigue and plenty of laughter for audiences seeking classic main street theatre entertainment.

AFFECTIONS OF MAY: Love and Laughter in a Small Town

AFFECTIONS OF MAY will run Fridays and Saturdays from August 8th to September 6th, 2025. Rehearsals begin the week of July 6th in Sacramento (R25 Complex) leading up to tech week starting August 3rd at the Kennedy Mine Amphitheatre.

Synopsis: AFFECTIONS OF MAY tells the story of May and Brian Henning, who move to the countryside to run a Bed and Breakfast. Brian quickly misses city life and another woman, leaving May to manage the B&B in a small town buzzing with gossip. Soon, May attracts the attention of Quinn, a handyman in need of work after losing his trailer, and Hank, a lonely loan officer with a passion for coffee mugs and Scrabble. As these men vie for May’s affection, secrets emerge, transforming their lives and May’s in this heartwarming and funny main street theatre play.
