Experience the Vibrancy of New York Streets at Summer Streets

Summer Streets is an annual New York City tradition that transforms the city’s most valuable public spaces – our streets – into car-free zones for recreation and community engagement. Held on select Saturdays, this unique event invites everyone to reimagine New York Streets as pedestrian and cyclist havens, fostering a healthier and more sustainable urban environment.

From 7 am to 3 pm on designated days, miles of new york streets become open in both directions, encouraging people of all ages to play, walk, bike, and explore the city in a completely new way. Along the route, rest stops offer a chance to pause and participate in free activities, turning the urban landscape into a vibrant playground. Summer Streets champions healthy recreation and promotes the use of eco-friendly transportation options, contributing to a greener New York City. In 2023, Summer Streets expanded its reach across all five boroughs, creating nearly 20 miles of car-free new york streets for everyone to enjoy.

Summer Streets is a resilient event, continuing rain or shine. For any schedule adjustments or real-time updates during the event, be sure to follow NYC DOT on Instagram and Twitter.
