Dr. Mariana Reyes brings a wealth of passion and expertise to North Elm Animal Hospital, serving the Greensboro community with dedication and a deep love for animals. Her journey to becoming a veterinarian is marked by a strong academic foundation and diverse experiences that have shaped her into the compassionate and skilled doctor she is today. Originally from Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, Dr. Reyes’s upbringing was filled with family pets, including her beloved beagles Chester and Rusty, fostering an early appreciation for the human-animal bond.
Her academic pursuits began with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a minor in Spanish from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY in 2013. Driven by her aspiration to enter veterinary medicine, she moved to Chicago and earned a post-baccalaureate degree in Medical Sciences from Dominican University in 2015. During this period, Dr. Reyes gained valuable hands-on experience working as a veterinary technician, further solidifying her commitment to animal care. Before embarking on her veterinary studies, she also spent time as a vet tech in Bozeman, Montana, an experience that broadened her perspective and deepened her resolve.
Dr. Reyes pursued her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. She achieved Summa Cum Laude honors upon graduation in June 2021 and was inducted into the prestigious Veterinary Honor Society Phi Zeta. Her time in Grenada was not only academically rigorous but also deeply impactful. Dr. Reyes actively engaged with the local community, demonstrating her commitment to accessible animal healthcare by organizing free health clinics for Grenadian pets as part of the One Health One Medicine initiative. This experience underscored her belief in the interconnectedness of animal, human, and environmental health.
In 2020, Dr. Reyes relocated to Raleigh to complete her clinical year at North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. She quickly developed an affinity for North Carolina and was thrilled to find an opportunity to establish her career in Greensboro at North Elm Animal Hospital. Dr. Reyes is eager to dedicate her skills and knowledge to the pets of Greensboro and become an integral part of the North Elm Street community.
Beyond her professional life at North Elm Animal Hospital, Dr. Reyes enjoys exploring the culinary scene of Greensboro, trying out new restaurants and breweries. She is an avid reader of autobiographies and a fan of true crime documentaries. To unwind, she enjoys cheering on her favorite sports teams, the Indianapolis Colts and Notre Dame football, and hiking with her “goofy and loyal” dog, Mr. Feeny.
