Understanding Payment Fees
When making a payment, it’s important to understand the associated fees. An administration fee is applied at the time of your payment. This fee is not collected by North Washington Street Water and Sanitation District, but by the payment processing service. You will be informed of this charge before you finalize your transaction and have the option to cancel if you wish. Additionally, a surcharge applies when paying with a credit card. However, there is no additional charge if you pay with a check in person at our District Office.
Important Payment Deadline: 9:00 a.m.
The payment deadline to avoid service disruption is 9:00 a.m. This is a critical time to remember, especially for delinquent accounts or returned checks. Unfortunately, exceptions to this deadline cannot be made.
Keep in mind that mail delivery times can be affected by holidays and weekends. If you are unsure if a mailed payment will reach our office in time, we strongly recommend paying online or visiting our office in person. This is especially important when holidays occur near a scheduled shut-off date, as mail delays could prevent your payment from arriving on time.
Many customers utilize their bank’s online bill payment service. While convenient, please be aware that these payments are often mailed to us by your bank and are not instant. This delay could result in a late payment, particularly if your account is already past due and facing potential disconnection. In such cases, paying in person, using our night drop box, or making an online payment directly through our website are the most reliable methods to ensure timely payment and avoid service interruption.
If your water service is at risk of disconnection due to a past-due balance, it is vital to contact our office on the morning of your scheduled shut-off after you have made your payment. If payment is made after business hours and your service has been disconnected, present your payment receipt to our on-call staff member, and service will be restored before 7:00 p.m.
