The cinematic universe is full of disappointments, but few bombs are as universally reviled as Rapsittie Street Kids: Believe in Santa. This animated “classic” is less heartwarming holiday cheer and more a lump of coal in the stocking of animation history. Its legacy was already cemented as a cautionary tale, but the mid-credits stinger promising more of these “Street Kids” felt like a cruel joke.
The threat of a sequel, specifically Rapsittie Street Kids: A Bunny’s Tale, loomed large after the “success” of the original. Imagine a world subjected to further adventures of these poorly animated, gratingly voiced characters. Thankfully, the overwhelmingly negative reaction to Believe in Santa acted as a repellent. The proposed Easter-themed follow-up was mercifully shelved, saving audiences from further torment.
Let’s not shed any tears for what could have been. There’s no need to pity the minds behind the Rapsittie Street Kids franchise. While Rapsittie Street Kids: Believe in Santa may be largely forgotten (or actively repressed), and the sequel A Bunny’s Tale relegated to development hell, perhaps this is for the best. These projects aren’t truly dead; they’ve simply ascended to a place where bad animation goes to be… somewhere else, far away from our screens.
