Clinton “Jim” James Peters, a beloved resident of St. Peter, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the age of 53 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato. His life, deeply rooted in the St. Peter community, will be celebrated and remembered by all who knew him.

A celebration of Jim’s life is scheduled for Tuesday, October 22, 2024, from 4-7pm at the St. Peter Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to share their cherished memories of Jim at www.saintpeterfuneralhome.com, a testament to his lasting impact on those around him in St. Peter and beyond.

Born on October 28, 1970, in Mankato, Jim was the son of Clinton and Kathleen Elizabeth (Trimbo) Peters. His upbringing in St. Peter, alongside his ten siblings, shaped his character and values. The family cabin in Alexandria provided a backdrop for many happy memories during his youth. It was during his junior year of high school in St. Peter that Jim’s life took a beautiful turn when he met Julie, who would become his wife. Five years later, on April 24, 1993, they solidified their bond in marriage. Their journey together led them to Waseca and Janesville before they happily returned to make St. Peter their permanent home in July 2016. For nearly two decades, Jim dedicated his professional life to serving as a security counselor at the Minnesota Security Hospital, a significant institution in the region.

The Peters family expanded in October 2010 when Jim and Julie traveled to China to adopt their son, Elijah James Peters. Fatherhood was a role Jim embraced wholeheartedly. He delighted in sharing life’s lessons with Eli, from practical skills like changing a license plate to the culinary art of dicing onions for hotdish. His pride in Eli was evident in every aspect of their relationship.

Beyond his professional and family life, Jim had a rich tapestry of personal interests. He found joy in simple pleasures: engaging in games and cards with family, embarking on canoeing and camping adventures with friends in the Boundary Waters and various Minnesota State Parks, passionately following football, immersing himself in books, exploring new recipes through cooking, and leisurely rides on his scooters. Above all, Jim cherished moments spent by a campfire, a symbol of warmth and connection for him.

Jim’s legacy continues through his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Julie Peters; his son, Eli Peters; his siblings: Becky (Chuck) Homer, Debbie (Rick) Johnson-Zuti, Mark (Sandy) Peters, Pam Tollefson, Paul (Vicky Seely) Peters, John Peters, Ray Peters, David (Denise) Peters, Lisa (Bob) Schultz, and Bob (Kelsie) Peters; his brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Bekki Ziemer, Dan (Catie) Schwarze, Mark (Joyce Anderson) Schwarze, Duane (Annette) Hand, and Colette (Steve) Dragt; and his parents-in-law, Loren and Linda Schwarze. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will fondly remember him.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, Clinton and Kathleen Peters; his sister-in-law, Dee Peters; and his nieces, Lora Johnson and Sara Johnson. His memory will be held dear by all who were fortunate enough to know him in St. Peter and beyond.
