Project map highlighting North Franklin Avenue and Stevens Street resurfacing areas in Madison, WI
The City of Madison is embarking on an essential infrastructure project that will bring significant upgrades to utilities and road surfaces in the Stevens Street area, along with sections of N Franklin Avenue and Lynn Terrace. Specifically, Stevens Street, from N Franklin Avenue to Grand Avenue, is slated for a comprehensive overhaul to replace aging and deteriorating infrastructure.
This project addresses critical needs by replacing sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and water main systems beneath both N Franklin Avenue and Stevens Street. Residents of Stevens Street can anticipate enhanced reliability and efficiency of these essential services upon project completion. Lynn Terrace will also see improvements with the replacement of sanitary main and laterals, and storm sewer inlets.
Beyond utility upgrades, the Stevens Street project includes a complete road resurfacing. This means the existing gravel base and asphalt will be replaced, ensuring a smoother and safer driving experience for residents and commuters. Spot replacements of curb and gutter, sidewalk, and driveway aprons will also be undertaken to further enhance the streetscape along Stevens Street and the other project areas.
For Stevens Street specifically, construction is scheduled to take place in the Summer/Fall of 2024, following a bid advertisement in Spring 2024. Work on N Franklin Avenue and Lynn Terrace will follow in Spring/Summer 2025, with bid advertisement planned for early 2025.
Public input is a valued component of this project. A public information meeting has already taken place on January 30, 2024, and the recording will be made available online. Further opportunities for public feedback will be announced as the project progresses.
Key city meeting dates for the Stevens Street portion of the project include an April 3, 2024 Board of Public Works meeting and an April 16, 2024 Common Council meeting. The bid opening date for Stevens Street is set for April 25, 2024. Meeting dates for N Franklin Avenue & Lynn Terrace are also scheduled for Fall 2024.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed about the Stevens Street and related infrastructure improvements. Further details and documents, including fact sheets and assessment schedules, are available through the City of Madison Engineering Department. The project team is committed to minimizing disruption and ensuring clear communication throughout the duration of the Stevens Street and broader project.
