GoTriangle is issuing an important reminder to all customers utilizing the free park-and-ride lot at Streets At Southpoint Mall: please ensure you are parking exclusively in the 147 designated parking spaces located near the movie theater.
These dedicated parking spots are clearly indicated by metal signs that read: “Reserved for park and ride use during non-holiday weekdays between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.” While individual spaces are not marked, Southpoint mall management has recently reinforced the designated area with orange cones to further clarify the boundaries.
It is crucial to adhere to these parking restrictions as Southpoint mall management is strictly enforcing the designated zone. Transit customers who park outside of this area risk having their vehicles towed. GoTriangle has proactively addressed the parking limitations by offering to purchase additional spaces from Southpoint to accommodate more transit users. However, this offer has not yet been accepted by the mall.
The requirement for designated park-and-ride spaces at Southpoint was originally mandated by the city of Durham as part of the mall’s zoning permit, underscoring the importance of this service for public transportation users.
GoTriangle strongly encourages all customers to carefully review the park-and-ride map to familiarize themselves with the designated parking area. Please pay close attention to the signage and cones installed by mall management when parking at Streets at Southpoint mall.
For riders seeking alternative parking options, remember that there are 67 additional park-and-ride spaces available at a neighboring lot in front of the Home Goods store within Renaissance Village. These spots are also clearly marked with park-and-ride signs, and a convenient bus stop is located on Renaissance Parkway adjacent to this lot.
Looking ahead, significant construction is underway as Southpoint management plans to relocate all bus routes and stops away from the mall parking lot and onto Renaissance Parkway. While an exact completion date for this project is not yet known, GoTriangle is committed to providing further details and timelines as soon as they become available. In the meantime, please be vigilant about parking only in the designated areas at Streets at Southpoint mall to avoid any inconvenience.
