Hey there, fellow card slingers! If your calendar looks anything like mine, perpetually cluttered with meetings you’d rather skip (blockchain, anyone?), then I’ve got some fantastic news to pull you back into the present. Forget those digital distractions because Streets Of New Capenna Limited is throwing a month-long party you absolutely can’t miss.
We’re talking Arena Open tomorrow, Qualifier Play-In on the 21st, and a Qualifier Weekend to cap off the month. That’s a treasure trove of Sealed and Draft action, offering chances to snag cold, hard cash or a coveted invite to a Set Championship – or even the qualifier for the invite! The bottom line? If you’re like me and love the strategic depth of a massive sideboard, now is truly your time to shine in the streets of new capenna.
To get ready for the Day 1 Sealed gauntlet, I’ve been diving deep into Streets of New Capenna Sealed, six packs at a time. Currently, I’m riding high on the 17Lands leaderboard, breaking into the top 10 for Match Wins, Trophies, and Trophy Rate. Honestly, I’m a bit surprised given some of the truly wild (and often terrible) decks I’ve experimented with in the name of research. But when I stick to the most potent color combinations in streets of new capenna, my win rate skyrockets to a solid 81.25%.
So, what’s my top advice after countless matches navigating the streets of new capenna in sealed? For Best-of-1 queues, ride the Bant wave all the way to seven wins and that Day 2 invite. If you’re a Best-of-3 devotee, well, that’s a different ball game, and maybe not my area of expertise just yet.
Format Speed in Streets of New Capenna Sealed
Let’s talk format speed. In most Sealed formats, getting hung up on format speed is often a distraction, and Streets of New Capenna (SNC) is no exception. Yes, fast decks are possible, but you shouldn’t fundamentally alter your deck-building approach. The key takeaway is that aggression is rewarded in streets of new capenna. If you’re including defensive cards, ensure they boast a robust four toughness or are fortified with shield counters.
Someone on Reddit recently questioned the viability of High-Rise Sawjack. The straightforward answer? Its paltry three toughness is a liability. In streets of new capenna, creatures with three toughness tend to trade unfavorably. That’s the crucial point about format speed you need to internalize.
Red’s Struggles in New Capenna Sealed
Let’s delve into color performance. Examining the Top 50 cards by Game In Hand Win Rate (GIH WR), a stark picture emerges for red in streets of new capenna sealed. Only Professional Face-Breaker makes the list as a mono-red card. Expanding to multicolored cards involving red, we find Hostile Takeover at #6, Ziatora, the Incinerator at #18, Ob Nixilis, the Adversary at #35, Jetmir, Nexus of Revels at #37, and Fleetfoot Dancer at #42. That’s a mere six cards, half of which are mythic rares. In stark contrast, blue boasts five common cards within the same top 50 in streets of new capenna.
The core issue is that red operates primarily at sorcery speed in a format dominated by instant-speed interaction. Bant, Azorius, and Selesnya decks are deploying threats and attacking with impunity during combat, while you’re left clutching Strangle, Light Up the Night, or Ready to Rumble, hesitant to commit to action. Beyond Call in a Professional, red struggles to effectively interact with creatures shielded by counters, a prevalent mechanic in streets of new capenna. Red often provides reach through evasive creatures, but here, Wrecking Crew is a lackluster option, often arriving too late to significantly impact the game. If you find yourself in red, prioritize removal for Brokers’ flyers, as ground combat should be more manageable – assuming you survive to that point in streets of new capenna.

Resist the Red Splash Temptation
Unless your card pool forces your hand, it’s generally wise to steer clear of red as a primary color in streets of new capenna sealed. The red cards mentioned earlier might seem powerful, but that’s often a trap.
Consider Inspiring Overseer. This common blue card demonstrates a massive swing in win rate. With Inspiring Overseer in your opening hand or drawn, your win rate jumps to 62.1%. Without it, you lose 45.3% of the time. That’s a significant delta. Compare this to Ob Nixilis, the Adversary; casting him correlates with a 58.8% win rate, but not casting him still results in a 57.3% loss rate. This minimal difference, echoed by Hostile Takeover, Professional Face-Breaker, Jetmir, Nexus of Revels, and Ziatora, the Incinerator, signals a red flag for red’s overall performance in streets of new capenna.
This data suggests players are often lured by the allure of powerful red cards, leading them to either force suboptimal color combinations or splash red into decks where it doesn’t synergize. While the “play your bombs” philosophy has its merits, it doesn’t consistently apply to red bombs in streets of new capenna unless your pool is overwhelmingly red. Even then, building a red-centric 40-card deck might be a reluctant choice.
Colorless Cards: Proceed with Caution
While the allure of Quick-Draw Dagger or the niche utility of Unlicensed Hearse against Dimir decks might be tempting, limit your colorless inclusions to mana fixing artifacts like Halo Scarab or Ominous Parcel. These cards are valuable for smoothing out mana bases in ambitious three-color decks in streets of new capenna. If you find yourself needing both, it’s a red flag that your mana is too strained, and you should likely reduce the color requirements in your splash.
Lands like Obscura Storefront or Cabaretti Courtyard are welcome additions, especially in Bant decks. As the legendary Meatloaf (almost) said, “two out of three ain’t bad” when it comes to fixing lands in streets of new capenna. Having the correct mana base is paramount for success in this format, and a couple of dual lands that sacrifice for card draw can make a significant difference.
Brokers (Bant) Still Reign Supreme
Unsurprisingly, mirroring the draft format, Bant (Brokers) remains the deck to beat in streets of new capenna sealed. However, the sealed iteration of Bant differs slightly from its draft counterpart. Sealed Bant relies more on evasion and connive synergies, rather than perfectly orchestrated tempo plays. If you’re unfamiliar with Bant in streets of new capenna draft, check out my primer:
10 Lessons From 10 Trophies In Streets Of New Capenna Draft
Now that you’re up to speed on Bant in streets of new capenna draft, let’s look at card evaluations for sealed. Disdainful Stroke is an excellent one-of, providing a cheap answer to bombs that Bant sometimes struggles to interact with directly through tapping or bouncing. Witness Protection, often underwhelming in draft, shines in sealed as a pseudo-You Are Already Dead (minus the card draw) or a way to neutralize threats like a troublesome Jaxis. Revelation of Power can be game-ending, clearing out opposing flyers or creating surprise threats. Ensure you have sufficient counters in your deck to maximize its keyword potential. Games in streets of new capenna sealed tend to extend, making a single copy of Case the Joint a worthwhile inclusion.

I’m generally lukewarm on two-drops that don’t bear the “Raffine’s” or “Citizen” labels. However, the “Citizen” rule excludes Speakeasy Server, which initially seems like a strong contender. The issue is that early turns often involve creature trades, relegating Speakeasy Server to a vanilla 3/3 for five mana. Again, three toughness proves to be a significant drawback in streets of new capenna.
Among uncommons, Hypnotic Grifter is exceptionally powerful in sealed. Eliminating it immediately is a priority when facing an opponent. Its late-game potential for repeated looting and growth is formidable. Freelance Muscle also performs well in sealed, feeling less slow than it sometimes does in draft. Conversely, Ceremonial Groundbreaker has underperformed for me and shouldn’t be an automatic include. A critical mass of Citizens is essential to offset the equip cost and realize its value, even in slower streets of new capenna games.
I’m inclined to play hybrid mana rares like Toluz, Clever Conductor, Rigo, Streetwise Mentor, and Jinnie Fay, Jetmir’s Second, ranked in that order. Regarding hideaway cards, Rabble Rousing and Fight Rigging operate on a different level compared to Wiretapping, which I would actively avoid playing. Rabble Rousing and Fight Rigging consistently generate free cards, feeling almost unfair given their additional benefits. Always hide away a card you’d love to draw right before combat to maximize their impact in streets of new capenna.

Strategies to Beat Brokers in New Capenna Sealed
To effectively combat the Brokers archetype in streets of new capenna, consider playing Obscura (Esper) if possible – essentially “Brokers Lite.” Black provides access to hand disruption tools like Corrupt Court Official, Extract the Truth, and Nimble Obstructionist, which can disrupt connive-heavy strategies. Plus, Inspiring Overseer remains a powerful card in any deck.
Remember that Brokers in sealed are less dominant in the early turns compared to draft. If you can establish an early board presence and apply pressure, they might stumble. Key creatures for this strategy include Girder Goons, Snooping Newsie, Echo Inspector, and finishers like Dusk Mangler or Queza, Augur of Agonies. Essential spells to tempo them out and gain life include Fake Your Own Death, Grisly Sigil, Out of the Way, Murder, Make Disappear, and Run Out of Town.

Red as a Core Color: A Last Resort in Streets of New Capenna
Facing a truly weak pool? If red is your only viable color, commit fully. Prioritize instant-speed interaction to compensate for red’s inherent sorcery-speed limitations in streets of new capenna. Ensure you can reliably access your charm mana without sacrificing board presence. Torch Breath is crucial for dealing with opposing blue flyers. Regardless, meticulously re-evaluate every card, seeking any possibility to pivot to another color combination.
Final Thoughts on New Capenna Sealed
While Bant (Brokers) holds a clear edge in streets of new capenna sealed, the revised prize structure offers a silver lining. Reaching Day 2 guarantees at least gem reimbursement, encouraging players to re-enter even after a poor initial pool. Remember to manage your budget wisely and, most importantly, have fun navigating the streets of new capenna. It’s shaping up to be an exciting month of Limited play!
