From Detroit Roots to Atlanta’s Music Scene

Born Tariq Mahdi in Detroit, Michigan, Mr. Tariq’s early life was steeped in the importance of education, growing up as the eldest of seven children to a school teacher. His natural musical talent blossomed early, leading him to explore and excel in various creative pursuits. His teenage years ignited a passion for hip hop, a genre that would become the driving force behind his innovative musical endeavors. Relocating to Atlanta in 1998 marked a significant turning point, immersing him in a thriving artistic environment encompassing spoken word, opera, and positive hip hop. His creative footprint expanded to include appearances in commercials, recognition as a creative artist, and acting roles in major dance productions.

Mr. Tariq’s commitment extends beyond performance. In 2013, he took on the presidency of the I.Y.E.A (International Youth Empowerment Association), amplifying his impact on young lives across Metro-Detroit, inner cities throughout America, and even internationally. This role underscores his dedication to takin’ it to the streets in a meaningful way, directly engaging with youth and fostering their potential.
