A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A TARGET SECURITY SPECIALIST
Every day as a Target Security Specialist is dynamic and engaging. While tasks can vary, a typical day in our Baltimore, MD store, not far from Boston Street, will likely involve these key responsibilities:
- Guest and Team Engagement: Proactively support sales by warmly welcoming and engaging guests and team members right at the front of the store, creating a positive and secure first impression.
- Physical Security Culture Leadership: Champion a strong physical security culture for both team members and guests by continuously assessing and maintaining high safety and security standards throughout the store, including all exterior property areas.
- Security Incident Response and Documentation: Respond promptly and effectively to security incidents, ensuring accurate and thorough documentation of all events in accordance with established procedures.
- Escalation Tool Utilization: Understand and effectively leverage escalation tools for guest issues, ensuring a safe and secure environment is maintained for everyone in the store.
- Merchandise Recovery and Apprehension Support: Conduct productive merchandise recoveries and provide apprehension support when necessary, always strictly adhering to AP policies, procedures, and leadership guidance.
- Front-of-Store Theft Prevention: Proactively prevent theft and shortage at the front of the store through effective implementation of receipt checks for exposed high-value merchandise.
- Incident Documentation and Reporting: Submit comprehensive and appropriate documentation within the system for all security incidents, consistently following AP policy and procedural guidelines.
- Video System Operation: Utilize and understand the video surveillance system to its full potential, supporting security monitoring and investigations.
- Safety and Store Maintenance Modeling: Model safe working practices while also contributing to maintaining a clean and organized store environment for both guests and team members.
- Guest-Centric Service: Provide exceptional service and create a shopping experience that consistently meets the diverse needs of our guests.
- Ethical Conduct and Compliance: Demonstrate a strong culture of ethical conduct, unwavering safety practices, and full compliance with all relevant regulations and company policies.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS FOR SUCCESS
While Target provides comprehensive training to equip you for success as a Security Specialist, certain foundational skills are essential from the outset:
- Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- Educational Foundation: High school diploma or equivalent GED is required.
- Legal Compliance: Must meet any applicable state or local licensure and/or other legal requirements related to the security specialist position.
- Guest-Focused Attitude: Demonstrate a welcoming and helpful attitude towards all guests and fellow team members.
- Technical Aptitude: Ability to effectively communicate using multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners, along with other technology equipment as directed for the role.
