Getting to the Courthouse: Your Guide via Worth Street

Navigating to the Daniel Patrick Moynihan United States Courthouse can be straightforward when you know the key access points. For those heading to this important location, understanding how to reach the Worth Street entrance is crucial for a seamless visit. This guide provides detailed directions from various starting points, ensuring you arrive at the courthouse with ease.

Directions from Westchester & Putnam Counties

Whether you’re traveling by train or car from Westchester and Putnam, here’s how to reach the courthouse efficiently.

By Metro-North Train

For a convenient train journey, take the Metro-North to Grand Central Terminal. Upon arrival, transfer to the subway system. Take the #4, 5, or 6 subway lines downtown to the Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall Station. When exiting the subway, head towards the rear of the train platform. Once above ground, you’ll be in Foley Square. Pearl Street will be visible across the square.

While the courthouse address is 500 Pearl Street, remember that for security, the designated entrance is on Worth Street. From Foley Square, Worth Street is located at the north end, to the left of the two large courthouses. Walk along Worth Street for one block, and you’ll find the courthouse entrance. Allow approximately 20 minutes for the subway ride from Grand Central.

Alternatively, consider the M103 bus for a direct route from Grand Central. Catch the M103 bus on Lexington Avenue, just outside Grand Central’s side exit; look for the M103 sign. The bus will proceed downtown and stop at the corner of Worth Street and Park Row, after passing through Chinatown. From this bus stop, the courthouse is just a half block down Worth Street. Bus travel from Grand Central typically takes about 35 minutes. For your return journey, the uptown M103 bus can be boarded at the corner of Pearl Street & Park Row, behind the courthouse, which will take you to Third Avenue & 42nd Street, a short walk from Grand Central.

By Car via FDR Drive South

If driving, take the FDR Drive South to Exit 2, marked Manhattan Civic Center. At the traffic light after exiting, turn left onto Pearl Street and continue under the Brooklyn Bridge. After two blocks, you’ll find a large outdoor parking lot on your left at the corner of Pearl Street & Peck Slip (parking fees apply). From the parking lot, walk back towards the courthouse at 500 Pearl Street, retracing your path back under the Brooklyn Bridge. Note that Pearl Street makes a sharp 90-degree left turn near a C-Town supermarket. Alternatively, utilize other parking garages in Manhattan. Jurors from Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam can be reimbursed for toll and parking fees with receipts.

Directions from Rockland County

Traveling from Rockland County offers several options to reach the courthouse, all leading you to Worth Street.

By Metro-North Train via Westchester

For those starting in Rockland, driving to a Metro-North station in Westchester is an option. Cross the Tappan Zee Bridge to reach stations like Tarrytown, Phillipse Manor, Irvington, or Ardsley. From any of these stations, take a Metro-North train to Grand Central and then follow the Metro-North train directions detailed above to reach Worth Street.

By Metro-North Train to Hoboken Terminal

Another train route involves taking Metro-North from Spring Valley, Nanuet, Pearl River, Sloatsburg, or Suffern to Hoboken Terminal. Upon arriving at Hoboken, you have two choices: either take a NY Waterway Ferry to lower Manhattan and walk to the courthouse, or transfer to a PATH train to the 9th Street PATH station. At 9th Street, transfer to the A or C subway lines, heading downtown to Chambers Street station. From Chambers Street, walk north on Church Street (with the flow of traffic) and then turn right onto Worth Street. The Daniel Patrick Moynihan United States Courthouse will be on Worth Street.

By Bus to Port Authority Terminal

Bus travel is another viable option. Take a bus to Port Authority Terminal. From there, take the 1 or 2 subway lines downtown to Chambers Street. Once at Chambers Street, walk north on Church Street (with traffic) to Worth Street, then turn right onto Worth Street to reach the courthouse. Alternatively, from Port Authority, take the M6 bus downtown from the corner of 42nd Street & Broadway to the corner of Broadway & Worth Street. Walk east on Worth Street for two blocks to the courthouse entrance on Worth Street. To return to Port Authority, catch the bus at the corner of Worth & Church Street, one block west of Broadway.

By Car via George Washington Bridge

If driving from Rockland, take the George Washington Bridge to the Harlem River Drive South. The Harlem River Drive merges into the FDR Drive at 125th Street. From there, follow the car directions from Westchester & Putnam via FDR Drive South, as described earlier, to reach the courthouse area and find parking near Worth Street.

By following these directions, accessing the courthouse via the Worth Street entrance will be a straightforward part of your journey.
