Anchorage Man Indicted for Murder in Young Street Arson

Anchorage, AK – Joshua James Emon Gould, 46, has been formally indicted on nine felony charges, including First and Second Degree Murder, and First Degree Arson, in connection with the deaths of his parents. The indictment, handed down by a grand jury on July 17, 2024, follows an investigation into a residential fire that occurred at 3600 Young Street in Anchorage on February 1, 2024.

According to the Attorney General’s office, Gould is accused of intentionally setting the fire in the early morning hours of February 1st. The blaze at the Young Street residence resulted in the deaths of his parents, whose names are being redacted to protect their privacy as domestic violence victims.

The Anchorage Police Department’s homicide unit and the Anchorage Fire Department jointly conducted the investigation into the incident at Young Street. Their findings were presented to the Grand Jury on July 17, 2024, leading to the nine-count indictment against Gould. The charges comprise two counts of Murder in the First Degree, six counts of Murder in the Second Degree, and one count of Arson in the First Degree. Following the presentation of evidence and deliberation, the Grand Jury delivered a True Bill on all nine charges.

The initial response to the incident occurred at 1:49 am on February 1, 2024, when Anchorage Police (APD) and Anchorage Fire (AFD) were dispatched to a reported residential fire on the 3000-block of Young Street. Two individuals were rescued from the burning structure and immediately transported to the hospital by emergency medical personnel due to life-threatening injuries. Tragically, despite medical intervention, both individuals succumbed to their injuries and passed away.

Authorities promptly launched an investigation into the Young Street fire, quickly classifying it as arson. Simultaneously, the deaths were investigated as homicides, initiating a collaborative effort between the AFD and APD. While no charges were filed immediately following the incident, the subsequent grand jury indictment of Joshua James Emon Gould marks a significant development in the case, identified by APD Case number 24-3563. The legal proceedings against Gould will now move forward as the community seeks justice for the victims of this tragic event on Young Street.
