West Street Burgers: A Wichita Classic Revisited

Craving a classic American burger experience in Wichita? Look no further than West Street Burgers. We recently revisited this local favorite on West Street to see if it still holds up, and we’re here to share our updated review. Having been fans of both their original West Street location and the south Seneca spot, it was time to re-immerse ourselves in the charm and flavors of the original West Street Burgers. So, pull up a chair and join us as we dive into the revisited goodness of this Wichita burger joint.

Located at 130 S West St, West Street Burgers offers a straightforward menu focused on delivering quality, classic American fare. They’re open Monday through Saturday from 10:30 am to 8 pm, making it a perfect spot for lunch or dinner. While they keep it simple with cash and card payments, their Facebook page keeps you connected to their community vibe.

For our meal, we opted for a single cheeseburger to get to the heart of their burger offering, alongside their renowned pork tenderloin sandwich, a side of crispy fries, golden tater tots, and a creamy strawberry shake to sweeten the deal.

Everything arrived promptly, and we were soon ready to enjoy our West Street Burgers feast.

Let’s talk burgers. West Street Burgers patties are on the thinner side, which might lead heartier appetites to consider a double. The cheeseburger was a classic, no-frills experience – a well-seasoned patty, but not overwhelmingly juicy or thick like some gourmet burgers. If you’re seeking a massive, ultra-thick burger, this might not be it. However, it’s a solid, tasty burger that satisfies that classic burger craving without any pretense.

However, a consistent highlight at West Street Burgers is undeniably their pork tenderloin sandwich. It’s genuinely one of the best in Wichita. The pork tenderloin is expertly pounded thin, creating a large surface area for maximum crispiness and flavor. Served simply with tomato, lettuce, and mayonnaise, it’s a testament to how simple ingredients, when done right, can create something truly exceptional. Despite its size, the crispy pork tenderloin is surprisingly satisfying and a definite must-try.

Another clear win were the fries. Served in a generous cup, these weren’t your average fries. They were fresh-cut, thick, and fried to a perfect golden crisp. They had just the right touch of greasiness, delivering that satisfying crunch with every bite.

If there’s one area where West Street Burgers truly shines, it’s their fried items. Beyond the fantastic fries and tater tots, they are also known for having some of the best chicken nuggets in Wichita, although we didn’t sample them on this visit. Their expertise in frying is evident in the beautiful golden color and perfect crispness of everything coming from the fryer.

To complete our classic American diner experience, we indulged in a strawberry shake. It was the perfect sweet ending to our meal and definitely hit the spot.

West Street Burgers embodies the essence of a simple, unpretentious restaurant. They might not offer extravagant, over-the-top dishes, but they consistently deliver good quality food that leaves you satisfied. For many Wichitans, it’s considered the best burger in town. While it might not be my personal number one, it’s a reliable spot I happily return to time and time again for those classic American cravings.
