Whenever you’re exploring a new city, stumbling upon a Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives (Triple-D) spot is always a good bet. These places are known for their consistently great reviews and, more importantly, for serving up generous, satisfying meals. During a recent trip to South Florida, the 11th Street Diner in Miami Beach was a must-try destination.
Arriving at lunchtime on a bustling Sunday, we found the brunch service in full swing. Anyone familiar with Miami Beach, especially South Beach, knows that parking can be a real challenge. Many establishments on the main strip offer valet parking, often at a steep price of $30 or more, just for a quick drink.
Fortunately, 11th Street Diner is situated just a block or so off the main road, which was a slight advantage, though parking was still tricky. Incredibly, we managed to find a parking spot directly across the street and were seated at a table for four in about five minutes. The diner was packed, buzzing with happy customers clearly enjoying their food. It was obvious this spot was a favorite for both locals and tourists.
Stepping inside, we were immediately immersed in a world of kitsch. Everywhere you looked, there was something interesting to catch your eye – murals, photos of celebrities who had dined there, and a lively crowd that made for great people-watching. The atmosphere was so engaging; you could easily enjoy a meal here even dining solo. Many patrons were also enjoying cocktails, adding to the vibrant weekend vibe, whether it was specifically a brunch tradition or just typical weekend fun, everyone seemed to be having a great time.
Naturally, we had to order the three dishes highlighted on Triple-D. It felt like a rite of passage!
I opted for the pork chops with apple and raisin sauce. It was simply divine. The sautéed apples and raisins were perfectly plumped and served in a rich, flavorful pan sauce. Every bite was decadent and satisfying. The pork chops themselves were cooked to perfection. I chose a side salad and sweet potato fries to accompany the meal, and even with a hearty appetite, I couldn’t finish everything – the portions are truly generous!
My only minor critique was the iced tea, which tasted a bit watered down. It seemed like the tea maker might have been a little light-handed with the tea bags that day.
My son chose the turkey dinner, and it was a Thanksgiving-sized feast. Slices of tender turkey were piled high on incredible stuffing, all smothered in comforting gravy and served with mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce on the side. He selected broccoli as his side dish, and it was flawlessly sautéed in butter and garlic – simply perfect. He also ordered a Strawberry-Banana Shake, which he devoured before his meal even arrived. No surprise he couldn’t finish his main course! Kids, right?
My husband decided on the Argentinean Skirt Steak, accompanied by a zesty tomato garlic relish. He requested it medium, but it leaned more towards medium-well. However, it was still delicious, served with flavorful black beans and rice, and classic French fries.
Overall, our dining experience was fantastic. We had no real complaints, except perhaps over-ordering and feeling wonderfully full (a personal issue, not the diner’s!). Despite the restaurant being packed, the service remained attentive and efficient.
As is my habit, I always check the restrooms at restaurants, and I was pleasantly surprised to find it very clean and well-maintained. Bathroom cleanliness is a big deal for me, and I was impressed that such a busy place kept it so well. Kudos to the 11th Street Diner team.
I wholeheartedly recommend giving 11th Street Diner a try if you find yourself in South Florida. It’s a true Miami Beach gem.
