Proposals are inherently magical moments, filled with raw emotion and the promise of a beautiful future. As a photographer, capturing this elation is truly special. When Shane contacted me about his plans to propose to his girlfriend Margarita in Boston, I was thrilled to be a part of their story. He envisioned popping the question at either Acorn Street or the Boston Public Garden. Acorn Street, with its undeniable charm, turned out to be the perfect setting for their unforgettable moment.
For those unfamiliar, Acorn Street in Beacon Hill is renowned as one of the most photographed streets in the United States. This quintessential old Boston street boasts a narrow alleyway lined with historic row houses and cobblestones, often adorned with an American flag. Its picturesque beauty draws tourists from around the globe, making it a popular destination. However, it’s crucial to remember that Acorn Street is also a residential area. Homes are occupied by residents who value their peace and quiet. When visiting, especially for a special occasion like a proposal, respecting the residents by being mindful and keeping noise levels down is paramount.
Understanding the popularity of Acorn Street, I advised Shane that a weekday morning would offer the best chance for privacy. Fortunately, our plan worked perfectly. On that special morning, Acorn Street was wonderfully quiet, allowing Shane and Margarita to have an intimate and personal moment for their proposal. Aside from a parked car, we had the street entirely to ourselves.
To ensure Margarita wouldn’t be surprised by my presence with a camera, Shane cleverly mentioned that Acorn Street was a popular photo spot in Boston. They arrived by Uber, eliminating parking concerns, and paused for a quick selfie – a casual moment before the life-changing question. As Shane knelt down and presented a stunning ring, Margarita’s joyful “YES!” echoed through the charming street.
After soaking in the initial excitement and capturing a few more photos on Acorn Street, we strolled to the nearby Boston Public Garden. This iconic park, just a short walk from Beacon Hill, provided another beautiful backdrop for engagement photos before they headed off to celebrate with brunch.
The Boston Public Garden offered a delightful contrast to the historic charm of Acorn Street. Margarita even wanted to share her exciting news with the iconic Mrs. Mallard and her ducklings statues!

It was an absolute honor to capture Shane and Margarita’s proposal. And I was even more delighted to photograph their wedding in January 2022! Acorn Street truly provided a magical start to their journey as an engaged couple.
